Near the Baseland

Two spaces arranged in a kind of storytelling. Over-sized origami, in the form of warriors which open and close access. Finally a symbolic relationship controversial and fragile, a relationship of marginal sovereignty. “Near the Baseland” is a metaphor, or better an allegory. The viewer is confronted with physical instances/obstacles, mechanical and conceptual hindrances, flows and atmospheres which define a world imaginary. A world like a magnification of a dystopian game, a deformed fairytale, a world imposing and at the same time fragile, a world that you must penetrate. To invade as a visitor, as a messenger of another world, as a stranger. A word, as an allegory of power and its faces, from the appropriation of the artist’s art, or even an allegory of the ambitious concept of processing and appropriating a treasure or a magical property. “Near the Baseland” is also a kind of hacking, appropriation and management of practices and symbols of other epochs and cultures - mainly Japanese - in their commercialized form. This counterfeit, the already overturned point and the attraction for its appropriation, expresses a perhaps deliberate release. A liberation which works in two phases: first you get attracted by the fake, and then you counterfeit what attracts you. Identified with our time, by the exhibition “Near the Baseland “, we comment on the necessity of our resource to “the other” and “bygone” in order to talk about the here and now.
