In Bypass, ash is used in a thick layer where it moves with a simple, invisible and almost “magic mechanism” thus creating a poetic but also mournful effect. The ash, which suddenly comes alive in motion, creates imaginary and utopian mappings of a dream landscape and is connected with the concept of regeneration and recycling of death in life. The video that records part of this continuous circular motion of the ash -a material that the viewer does not immediately recognize- creates an unprecedented version of reality. The artist replaces the concepts of separation and borders with an open structure of a moving ash, an alternative image to the deadend of mourning. The constant change in this artistic landscape is also a metaphor to the regeneration of identity, which is necessary not only on a personal level. Chatzigeorgiou points out that “If the people of a nation do not want to be buried in their own mausoleum, they should know to detach themselves from their habits; to disdain them in order to rejuvenate.
