In Quantum Physics, assumptions are made that conscious observations of subatomic particles, like neutrinos or positrons, can change measurably their behavior. It seems that the smallest entities known in the universe display a form of consciousness which will let them react to cognitive observers. In Object Oriented Ontology, a theory in philosophy, a speculative presumption has been proposed that all matter is engrained with consciousness, regardless of its organic or non-organic composition. It is even suggested that consciousness forms the hardware while all physical matter is the software, which is controlled and run through the framework of consciousness. These are the underlying theories, on which the installation “the Musicians”, is based on.

A limited 2-dimensional world is the setting where small entities, with anthropomorphic qualities live their contained 3-dimensional lives. They communicate abstractly by using mini percussions on tiny clumsy instruments. They have developed some entience and shy away when someone approaches to look at them and play dead instead. They like their privacy. However, a security camera tricks them and they have not understood that through this, they can be observed in another space, where a screen is revealing their secret lives.
