“Holy Joy X-treme Pinball Pleasure” is the first pinball table known to use the theme of religion. The player is challenged to flip / fight against today’s main religions, his main goal is to collect as many credits as possible – in order to become God himself. The “Holy Joy X-treme Pinball Pleasure” is a computer game modification of the “Pure Pinball 2.0 Redux” 3d pinball simulation originally released by Iridon Interactive in February 2005. The menu of the game has been redesigned, as well, are the graphics and the sounds of the game.
The design of the back-glass and the game field is based on illustrations related to religion, symbols of holiness, icons and architectural elements. The lights of the game field display words, deriving from religious terminology. Audio samples taken from prayers and religious music are to be heard each time the ball hits the specified sensors, and female vocals have been recorded to inform and direct the player. The spoken instructions used are also adapted to the religious content of the table. The game is accompanied by a controller, specially designed to provide realistic gaming experience.
Nikos Arvanitis (b. 1979, Athens, GR) studied Fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna and the Athens School of Fine Arts, Athens, GR (Erasmus scholarship). He also completed the MFA course “Public Art and new artistic Strategies” at the Bauhaus University of Weimar (DE) with scholarships from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the A. S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. He won the first prize on the “ZeitGenosse Schiller” competition for public art, Weimar (DE) 2005, was nominated for the “5th DESTE Prize” of the DESTE Foundation, Athens (GR) 2007, and he won the 2nd Prize of the Spyropoulos Foundation Award, Athens (GR) 2009. Arvanitis through his work, video and sound installations, sculptures, drawings and public interventions, deals with moments in culture that hinge on thrill and disorder, exploring the force that drives our contemporary communities. Arvanitis co-founded the artist-duo Barking Dogs United with Naomi Tereza Salmon in 2005.
His work has been exhibited, between others, at the 2nd Les Ateliers de Rennes – Biennial d’Art Contemporain, Rennes, (FR), 2nd Athens Biennial (GR), Halle 14 (DE), Locust Projects, Miami (USA), Town- house Gallery of Contemporary Art, Kairo (EG), Deste Foundation Centre For Contemporary Art, Athen (GR), Institute of Contemporary Greek Art, Athens (GR), BWA Wroclaw Galeria Awangarda, Wroclaw (PL), Bâtiment d’Art Contemporain Le Commun, Geneva (CH) and at the Salon of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade (RS).
