Remembering Language is a series of works pertaining to the remembering of one’s own communicative history, and the ways in which a child’s, now adult knowledge derives from family stories, from recordings, and only sparsely from recollections of one’s own. Re-collections and re-edits are instead instruments to bridge time backwards through an imaged/remade/re-found story of how we once acted, spoke, and communicated. Is it a true story? In what way? It is re-edited and remade through old and new media? How does the representation of recorded events translate into a contemporary visual language, and a personal concern now, fifty years on?
1. Say “Hello” is an audio tape/text video loop (5 min.) of a child of around three in the process of learning language and becoming introduced to a recording device as well as to parents’ ways of coaching and nudging. The tape creates a saved documentation of interaction and of learning a language soon to be forgotten.
2. A silent year is a video/film loop (6 min.) that deals with issues of memory retold. How does a family story of integration and language acquisition relate to a person’s remembering and images of the time of transition from one language to another?

Konstantin Economou left Greece at the age of three to settle in Sweden, as many Greek families did in the mid 1960s. He works as an academic at Linköping University within an interdisciplinary environment of media and cultural studies, production and art. His academic work centers on interaction in the media: for example, of how young users re-write social media content. In the last ten years he has, together with colleague Erik Berggren, run the independent curatorial project “the Museum of forgetting” in Norrköping, Sweden where the collaboration with international artists has led to several exhibitions and participations in the Art Athina Platforms project, and most recently in the Independent Platforms Project in Athens in May 2017. The Museum of Forgetting always works with issues of society and aims at giving critical perspectives on contemporary dilemmas, as well as exploring new ways of how to address and exhibit difficult issues, such as migration, war or politics.
