A dog burying a man on the ground. Our Dead Dogs is part of the film trilogy Three Farewells (2013) in which the ambiguous concept of death and the fear of losing, is interpreted outside the conventions of an anthropocentric understanding.
Janis Rafailidou lives and works between Amsterdam and Athens. She completed her education in Fine Art (BA, MA, PhD) at the University of Leeds. Her body of work spans from experimental-documentary practices, to video-essays, archival footage and most recently cinematic narratives and medium length films. She completed the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten residency 2013-2014, with the support of Onassis Foundation. Her second solo was presented at Martin van Zomeren Gallery, 2016. She has presented work at EYE Film Institute 2016, Visio 2015, Research Pavilion-Venice Biennial 2015, Netherlands Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, BFI, Rencontres Internationales. She has been a resident at Kunstlerhaus Villa Concordia and her first feature film was awarded with De Verbeelding 2016 by Mondriaan Funds and Netherland Film Funds.
