In the work TERRITORY, two video-images are projected onto the ground. They show a life- sized view of a group of performers lying within the space marked off by the camera frame. Their bodies are nestling together, sliding across each other in layers. The attempt to achieve a peaceful togetherness is recurrently disturbed by the impulse to assert oneself, to hold one’s ground, or to occupy more space. The result is a stereoscopic effect: two recordings of the same event prompt a visual comparison, causing a refracted perception of reality.
Yvon Chabrowski, born in East-Berlin, studied photography with Timm Rautert und Florian Ebner at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and the École nationale supérieur des beaux-arts Lyon. She graduated from Peter Piller’s master class. Her work has been shown in numerous international exhibitions, among them at the EIGEN & ART Lab (2009 und 2014), at the 4th Moscow International Biennale for young Art (2014) and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (2016). In 2017 among other international exhibitions, she took part in the 5th Odessa Biennale „Turbulence“ and „Between Post-truths and Events“, Frestas Trienal, São Paulo. In 2019, her work was presented at the exhibitions in WHAT PARADISE? COLLECTION FLORIAN PETERS-MESSERS at Weserburg, Museum of Modern Art, Bremen. Yvon Chabrowski holds a residence scholarship of the Hanseatic and university town of Rostock. Her work deals with the visual formulas of contemporary media, which she decontextualizes, making them tangible by creating a reflexive distance. Her work creates awareness for the grammar and the independent existence of media images.
