In Kliafa’s work Dissolution, we see a sculpture of a human figure, made of effervescent tablets, being “immersed” in a transparent cube full of water. The sculpture reacting with water, gradually begins to disintegrate until it falls and disappears. The characteristic sound of the dissolving tablets in water is heard throughout the video. This sculpture, due to the materials it was made from, highlights the ephemeral nature of the human body, an idea that is amplified by its dissolution. The work also deals with the over-consumption of medicines and the self-destructive element of human existence.
Peggy Kliafa lives and works in Athens. She is a graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts, in the Department of Painting and Sculpture, as well as the Athens University of Economics and Business in the Department of Business Administration & Marketing. Kliafa has participated in numerous group exhibitions and Art Fairs in Greece and abroad, such as: Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, 6th Thessaloniki Biennale, National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) in Athens, Athens Concert Hall (Megaron), Museum of Modern Greek Art of Rhodes Municipality, Makridio Theater in Paphos, Salone degli Incanti in Trieste, The Yard in New York, John Atanasof Innovation Forum in Sofia, Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, Art Athina, Beirut Art Fair etc. Peggy Kliafa has realised two solo exhibitions: “Placebo” at the Lola Nikolaou Gallery in Thessaloniki (2016) and “Pharmakon” at the Kappatos Gallery in Athens (2013/14). The artist has also participated in two 3-solo exhibitions: the “George Lappas_Aphrodite Liti_ Peggy Kliafa” at the Lola Nikolaou Gallery in Thessaloniki (2019) and “Creative Meetings 2017 – Michalis Katzourakis, Peggy Kliafa, Vassilis Gerodimos – Transformation of Matter” in the E. Averoff Museum in Metsovo (2017/18) . Her works can be found in public collections and museums in Greece as well as in institutions and private collections in Greece and abroad.
