The Museum of Forgetting creates art exhibitions and room for reflection with a focus on social, political and cultural forgetfulness. Our projects are not tied to any one specific form of expression or genre, but come together in the ambition to look critically at current political issues, memory and forgetting. We started in 2007 in an old blacksmith shop in Norrköping, Sweden but since 2008 we work nomadically and borrow spaces, curate at other venues on invitation and move around.
The starting point of MFG was a critical look at the Iraq war and the realization that media does not convey understanding, but rather has become a machine producing forgetting. Hence, what we need, we thought, to better cover current political affairs and ongoing wars is maybe a version of the institution that was invented to prevent collective amnesia – the museum.

The Museum of Forgetting has collaborated with many international and Swedish artists: Santiago Sierra (Spa), Björn Melhus (Ger), Karen Land Hansen (Den), Daniela Ortiz (Peru/Spa), Nuria Güell (Spa), Erik Pauser (Swe), Coco Fusco (USA), Dror Feiler (Swe), Saad Hajo (Syr/Swe), Kalle Brolin (Swe), Kristina Müntzing (Swe), Daniel Peltz (USA), Ewa Einhorn (Swe), Jeuno Kim( Swe/South Korea), Anna Lundh (Swe), Johanna Billing (Swe), Sahar Burhan (Syr), Gonzalo Frasca (Uru), Martin Etherton Friberg (Swe), Maria Friberg (Swe) and many more. In the later years MfG have also worked extensively with Greek and Cypriot artists such as Klitsa Antoniou, Yioula Chatzigeorgiou, Makis Faros and others.
The Museum of Forgetting has received financial support from the Swedish Foundation for the Culture of the Future as well as support from the Swedish Arts Council. Further support has been given by the municipality of Norrköping, and the regional culture authority Östsam.
