As in much of Rafailidou’s work, catastrophe and death are represented as the result of some larger calamity with non-anthropocentric, socio-political or cultural roots. The video reconstructs an event from news coverage. The lifeless animals on asphalt depict a tragic episode based on the paradox of premature death of non-human beings from human intervention. The fireworks, as yet another type of requiem, are devoted to their loss.

Lives and works between Amsterdam and Athens. She completed her education in Fine Art (BA, MA, PhD) at the University of Leeds. Her body of work spans from experimental-documentary practices, to video-essays, archival footage and most recently cinematic narratives and medium length films. She completed the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten residency 2013-2014, with the support of Onassis Foundation. Her second solo was presented at Martin van Zomeren Gallery, 2016. She has presented work at EYE Film Institute 2016, Visio 2015, Research Pavilion-Venice Biennial 2015, Netherlands Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, BFI, Rencontres Internationales. She has been a resident at Kunstlerhaus Villa Concordia and her first feature film was awarded with De Verbeelding 2016 by Mondriaan Funds and Netherland Film Funds.
